Jonathan B. Richman is the founder and president of Health Management Associates, Inc. He has been an advisor to both academic and community physician group practices for over 40 years. Jonathan has counseled literally hundreds of physician practices, with a significant focus on hospital-affiliated physicians and on various strategic, organizational, financial, operational and reimbursement related topics. With the business of medicine becoming more turbulent during the past few years, he has worked extensively with his anesthesiology, cardiology, emergency medicine, pathology, medical oncology and radiology clients to develop and implement strategies to keep their practices strong.

Jonathan is a graduate of the University of Rochester (BA) and the Health Care Management Program at Boston University (MBA) and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the Massachusetts HFMA Practice Management Committee. In 2014, he received the Follmer Bronze Merit Award for Outstanding Service to the HFMA. He has presented educational lectures to the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists, Massachusetts and Rhode Island Societies of Pathologists, and other IPAs and physician groups on a variety of practice management, practice development, financial, strategic and managed care topics. He has also written an article for the Massachusetts HFMA newsletter entitled "Private Practice Physicians - Strategies for Success in the Changing Environment.” Jonathan has been certified as a Qualified Consultant by the Massachusetts Medical Society Managed Care Resource Center. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Old Colony YMCA.

Jonathan and his wife Donna live in Easton, MA and have three adult children.

Jolan has been a health care management professional for over 35 years. As a principal at Health Management Associates, Inc., she provides practice management advisory services to physician groups in a variety of specialties, including radiology, pathology, anesthesiology, cardiology, neurology, and primary care.

Prior to joining HMA in 1989, Jolan worked in the health care consulting division of a Big Four public accounting firm. She earned her master's degree (MBA) from Boston University's Health Management program, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She is currently an active member of the Massachusetts Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and is a recipient of the HFMA Follmer Bronze Merit Award.

Jolan lives in Easton, MA with her husband and son.

Fred has been in the medical practice management field for over 30 years. He started his professional career with Professional Management Services, one of the first practice management/billing services in New England, in 1981 and became the Manager of its Practice Management Division in 1984. He later went on to join MAA Management Corp., a contract medicine firm, as its Administrator. He joined HMA in 1989 and has been a Principal since 1994.

Fred provides practice management advisory services to clients in the specialties of anesthesia, pathology, radiology, emergency medicine and hematology/oncology. His areas of expertise are third party contract negotiations, reimbursement strategy, financial and billing analysis, and general practice management-related issues.

Fred received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University (BA). He is a member of the Medical Group Management Association, the Massachusetts Medical Group Management Association, the College of American Pathologists Practice Management Forum and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). Fred is a member of both the Revenue Cycle Committee and the Healthcare Delivery Transformation Committee of the local chapter of the HFMA. He is certified as a Qualified Consultant by the Massachusetts Medical Society Managed Care Resource Center.

Fred and his wife Linda reside in Walpole, MA and have two sons.

Michael joined our firm in 1995 after spending five years as the Reimbursement Manager at a Massachusetts hospital. He has more than 25 years of experience in health care financial management. Michael's experience includes advisory services to emergency medicine, pathology, radiology and primary care practices. He has broad knowledge of revenue cycle management, third party contract negotiations, provider compensation, fringe benefit plans, practice start-up and wind down transitions and financial analysis for medical practices.

Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in Health Administration and Planning at the University of New Hampshire and is a member of RBMA. He lives in Lynnfield with his wife Anne and his three daughters.
